Unplanned Pregnancy & Medical Termination

Sometimes, pregnancy happens at a time that isn’t right for you. At DRV Health, you’ll receive confidential, respectful, and non-judgmental care to help you understand your options and choose what best fits your circumstances. If you’re considering ending a pregnancy, early medical abortion (MTOP) is a safe, effective option in the first weeks of pregnancy; surgical options are also available when preferred or clinically indicated.

Our Services Include:

  • Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTOP) via oral medication
  • Referrals for Surgical Termination of Pregnancy (STOP)
  • Counselling and emotional support referrals
  • Access to follow-up care and 24-hour nurse helpline

What is MTOP?

MTOP involves taking two types of oral medication over a 24–48 hour period. The process closely mimics a natural miscarriage. The first tablet (mifepristone) is usually taken in clinic or sometimes at home. The second (misoprostol) is taken at home to complete the process. Cramping and bleeding typically follow and may last for up to three weeks.

Your GP will check in within 5 days of beginning the process and schedule a follow-up appointment at the three-week mark. You will also have access to 24/7 nurse support during this time.

Surgical termination (STOP) – when it’s the better fit

Surgical abortion is a safe day procedure performed in a clinic or hospital, commonly under a brief general anaesthetic. It may be recommended by choice or for clinical reasons (e.g., later gestation, unsuccessful MTOP, or patient preference for a predictable, single-visit procedure). As with any surgery, risks are uncommon but include bleeding, infection and anaesthesia-related risks; we discuss these thoroughly beforehand.
